Maharashtra: lift act status.

Maharashtra requires a standard Automatic Rescue Device but does not, on the statutory text we have sourced, mandate uninterrupted lift backup.

The relevant statute is the Maharashtra Lifts, Escalators and Moving Walks Act, 2017, enacted in 2017.

3. Backup mandate status

On the statutory text we have sourced, Maharashtra's lift act requires: standard Automatic Rescue Device (ARD).

4. Notes

Standard ARD is a required safety feature, not an uninterrupted backup. Mumbai has reported approximately eight elevator fatalities annually with rising trend.
